| Adonis Description: | In Greek mythology, Adonis was the object of the goddess Venus’ affection. She fell madly in love with him after having been wounded by one of Cupid’s arrows. Adonis was merely a mortal, however handsome he might have been, and so Venus followed him in an attempt to keep him safe. When she could no longer continuously follow her love, she warned him to keep himself safe; her own happiness was intertwined with his. However, after a run-in with a boar, Adonis was fatally injured. Venus mourned her great loss, and supposedly created a flower, the Anemone, from his spilled blood.
Dino Rosin, master glass sculptor from Murano, Italy, has recreated Adonis in his timeless Calcedonia glass. Adonis has long been a popular figure in art. In Dino Rosin’s sculpture, this classic form has been given new life. As always, Adonis’ characteristic strength is present, but further enhanced by the powerful colors of the Calcedonia. As with all of Dino Rosin’s Calcedonia glass works, no two sculptures will ever contain the same colors. The distinguishing colors of Calcedonia, comparable to the stripes in a zoned agate, are created through the introduction of silver nitrate to crystal clear glass. Patterns found in each Dino Rosin sculpture cannot be controlled since the colors depend solely upon the chemical reaction of each batch. As a result, every sculpture - including "Adonis" - has the added element of chance upon that of unparalleled mastery.
Dino Rosin is a true "Maestro" from the celebrated glass art island of Murano, Italy. Rosin continues his family's tradition of glass blowing that dates back generations. "Adonis" is a stunning example of this world famous artist's skill and lineage, with a combination of clear and "Calcedonia" glass, a lost art rediscovered by Loredano Rosin, Dino's predecessor and older brother. Rosin's studio produces the clearest and most colorful Calcedonia glass in the world. Impossible to duplicate, each piece is completely unique in its color. |
